Job Summary:
The Medical Physicist will be responsible for providing technical and scientific support in the field of medical physics within a healthcare facility. This role primarily focuses on the safe and effective use of radiation in medical diagnosis and treatment. The Medical Physicist will work closely with physicians, radiation therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the accurate and optimal delivery of radiation therapy to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementing and maintaining quality assurance programs for radiation therapy equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and standards.
- Conducting and overseeing radiation safety surveys and audits to ensure radiation protection for patients, staff, and the general public.
- Participating in treatment planning and dose calculation processes, utilizing advanced computer software and tools.
- Collaborating with physicians and radiation therapists to optimize treatment plans and ensure accurate delivery of radiation to target areas while minimizing exposure to normal tissues.
- Assisting in the selection, calibration, and performance evaluation of radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators, brachytherapy units, and imaging devices.
- Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance for radiation therapy equipment, ensuring minimal interruptions to patient treatment schedules.
- Conducting research and participating in scientific studies to advance the field of medical physics, including the development and implementation of new techniques and technologies.
- Participating in professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and continuing education courses, to stay updated with the latest advancements in medical physics.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related field.
- Board certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent international board.
- Strong knowledge of radiation physics principles, radiation safety, and radiation therapy techniques.
- Proficiency in the use of treatment planning systems, radiation measurement equipment, and other medical physics tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively troubleshoot technical issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Detail-oriented approach to work, ensuring high accuracy in treatment planning and data analysis.
- Experience in conducting research, publishing scientific papers, and presenting findings at conferences is preferred.
- Ability to comply with all relevant regulations, guidelines, and ethical standards governing medical physics practice.
